The SETBA AWARD is the competition for artists with intellectual disabilities organized by the Setba Foundation, a cultural entity with social value. It is currently the most endowed award in the Spanish state.
This 2023 has reached its thirteenth edition, in which 1,460 artists from 85 Entities presented themselves, 10% more than the previous edition. The jury was formed by the artist Meritxell Durán, by the manager of Art Mir Josep Manuel Jaurena, by the gallerist and vice-president of the Gremi de Galeries de Catalunya Mònica Ramón, by Montse Sampietro of the Department of Culture and Science Activities of the “la Caixa” Foundation; and by Cristina Sampere, director of the Setba Foundation.
The aim of this award is to make visible and recognize the talent of artists with disabilities. Thanks to the agreement reached with the Guild of Galleries, from 2022 the finalist works will be exhibited in the Pigment Gallery. As a novelty for this edition, in addition to the prize-winning works and finalists, the Public Award, for which 1,189 people voted, will be exhibited. The participating artists belong to the following organizations: Fundació Ampans, Femarec SCCL, Centro Ocupacional Les Corts and Associació Acudam.
The Setba Foundation annually organizes MAGISTRALS, an online and face-to-face artistic training project aimed at entities in the disability sector and led by professional artists such as Jaime Súnico, Laura Klamburg and Marta Fàbregas. Thanks to the project, not only has the number of artists participating in the competition increased, but the quality of the works presented has also improved.
The 13 works are for sale and the profits are shared between the artist and the project.
