Julio Vaquero (Barcelona 1958) developed his work from the study of reality. His preoccupation with pictorial techniques and procedures led him to dedicate his beginnings to the study of the great flamenco masters, after which he began to develop his own language. The study of materials gradually took him away from the orthodoxy of the realist tradition and immersed him in a continuous process of experimentation. His search focuses on the fundamental problems of light and space and on the duality between flat space and three-dimensional space, concentrating his gaze on the elements that shape culture and the world of contemporary knowledge, as well as the figure inside symbolic spaces
Vaquero has been invited on numerous occasions to give lectures at universities, foundations and art centers and has written press articles about different artists, such as Anselm Kiefer or Bill Viola. He has also collaborated in a special edition of Editorial Planeta on the work of Antonio López and was the scriptwriter of the TVE 2 program “La mitad invisible” about his work. He has recently done the scenography for the play “Talking heads” for the National Theatre of Catalonia.
