En chair et en os
January 22 to March 8, 2022
From January 22 to March 8 Pigment Gallery presents the first individual exhibition of the artist Quentin Garel in Barcelona. In the exhibition “En chair et en os”, or “In flesh and bone” in English, nine large and medium-format bronze sculptures from the “Trophy” series are presented, which represent animal heads such as two elephants, a giraffe , two baboons, a camel skeleton, or a large gorilla head. Widely influenced by the animal world; They are inspired by the anatomy, skeletons and archaeological remains that appear in his sculptures and drawings. It all started 20 years ago, when his work took an ironic look at hunting trophies and denounced the proud human practice and domination over the animal seen only as an object of consumption.
Quentin Garel's sculptures are deceptive at first glance, they could be actual animal heads, as the wood-like bronze assembly is easily recognized on sight. The artist's favorite material is wood, from which he models the sculptures and then casts iron-bronze to obtain the sculptures in the exhibition. Each trophy belongs to a series of eight. In the exhibition, the drawings are also a remarkable aspect of all his work. Drawings of anatomical studies of animals are presented, such as a small tentacle also translated into sculpture or a set of elephant heads in a 2-meter drawing made with charcoal on paper.
Monday to Friday from 10 to 20 h/10am to 8pm.
Saturday from 11-14h/11am-2pm and 16-20h/4pm-8pm
